WUHAN, Oct 22. (Xinhua) -- Russia and China pocketed three gold medals each from swimming and six tournament records had been rewritten on the fourth day at the 7th CISM World Military Games here on Tuesday.

World record holder and newly-crowned world champion Anton Chupkov proved he was the best in the men's 200m breaststroke as he touched the wall in 2:07.95. Home favorite Qin Haiyang took the silver in 2:08.41. Chupkov later joined the winning team of Russia in the men's 4x100m medley relay in 3:33.57, a new military games record, ahead of China and Poland.

"I was swimming the relay after the 200m, feeling heavy and tired, and I gave it everything I had. The guys took up the baton and earned the victory," Chupkov said.

Vladislav Grinev, bronze medalist in FINA World Swimming Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, in July, stormed to 47.86 seconds in men's 100m freestyle, also a new record, beating Pedro Spajari of Brazil (48.75) and Kacper Majchrzak of Poland (48.99) by almost one body length.

China added three more gold medals Tuesday to accumulate a total of 22 golds in swimming. Ji Xinjie triumphed in the men's 400m freestyle in 3:48.33, also a new CISM record and Yu Jingyao set a new mark with 2:23.36 in women's 200m breaststroke. China won the women's 4X200m freestyle relay in 7:57.06.

French swimmers snatched two victories, all in new CISM records as Melanie Henique finished top in women's 50m butterfly by 25.96 and Fantine Lesaffre claimed women's 200m individual medley in 2:12.07.

Guilherme Basseto of Brazil secured the men's 50m backstroke in 25.34

The swimming competition will come to an end on Wednesday as China now leads the medal standings with 22 golds, 13 silvers and 6 bronzes, followed by Russia's 7-9-7 and Brazil's 3-7-5.
