MANCHESTER, Britain, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China's two-time Olympic champion Wu Jingyu was beaten by Thailand's Panipak Wongpattankit in the women's under-49kg final at the world taekwondo championships here on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Wu, who just returned from retirement after having her first child, found the 21-year-old rival too much for her, losing 21-6 after three rounds.

Wu, who won the gold medal at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, was consoled after the competition by Thomas Bach, the IOC president, who later awarded the medals for the four medalists of this event.

"I don't think the result is important for me," Wu said. "To stand here again after having a child is more important."

She is very thankful for Bach but felt sorry for the IOC chief because she failed to live up to his expectation.

"The president is always very good to me and actually my daughter's name, Gloria, is given by him. He always remembers my daughter's birthay and sent her a gift. But I feel sorry for him because I could not win the gold medal."

Wu, who finished seventh at Rio, is confident of completing a hat-trick of Olympic gold medals in Tokyo.

"I still think I can win the gold," she said. "This is just my fifth competition after coming out of retirement."
