WASHINGTON, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The re-election campaign of President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Monday that they will report a fundraising haul of combined 76.1 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter to the Federal Election Commission.

The Trump campaign, the RNC, and the joint fundraising committees now have 82 million dollars in cash on hand, according to a press release.

Independently, the Trump campaign took in 30.3 million dollars overall in the first quarter and now has 40.8 million dollars in cash on hand.

The campaign said 98.79 percent of first quarter contributions to it and the joint committees came from "low-dollar" contributions, defined as 200 dollars or less, with an average contribution of 34.26 dollars.

Additionally, the RNC posted a haul of 45.8 million dollars for the first quarter.

The amount that the Trump re-election raised in the first quarter rivaled the combined fundraising haul of the two leading Democrats.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who has announced his second bid for the U.S. presidency, led Democratic fundraising with 18.2 million dollars in a window of 41 days, as he officially launched his campaign in February.

California Senator Kamala Harris, the state's former attorney general, followed with 12 million dollars.

Trump filed his paperwork for re-election on the day he took the oath of office in early 2017.
