BERLIN, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Frankfurt have all made it into the top 10 of a ranking of the world's cities with the best employment opportunities, the newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ) reported on Friday.

FAZ cited a study by the German moving services provider Movinga in which the Bavarian capital Munich was second only to the U.S. university town Boston in terms of its attractiveness to employees. Hamburg was ranked in fourth place behind Calgary in Canada, while Stuttgart came in fifth and Frankfurt in ninth place.

The findings were based on analyses of a location's economic strength for start-ups and established businesses, standard of living including disposable income and healthcare benefits, and the inclusion of youth, women and expats in the workforce. The final index compiled by Movinga then ranked the top 100 cities by a "total job opportunity score" from highest to lowest.

FAZ noted that major financial centers, such as London (6th place), Singapore (7th place) and New York (13th place) were not represented in the top three or top five of the list. Additionally, Berlin trailed many smaller other cities in a national comparison of employment opportunities. The German capital was beaten by Cologne (fifth place in Germany and 11th place internationally) and was hence domestically ranked in sixth place.

The general strength of Germany in the ranking was attributed by the Movinga researchers to the circumstance that it had established itself as major jobs engine in the European labor market. Additionally, German employees benefited from a good public health system, low youth unemployment and relatively equal opportunities for men and women in their careers.
