SHANGHAI, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Brunei hopes to enter the Chinese market and be more engaged in global trade, a member of the royal family from the Southeast Asian country told Xinhua at an ongoing import expo here.

It is "definitely a good opportunity for Bruneian companies to enter the Chinese market, which is a big market," said Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini bin Pengiran Dr. Haji Mohd Yakub, son-in-law of the Sultan of Brunei who married Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah.

He came to the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai to help promote health products produced in his country.

"China has such a huge population ... If we can enter a province, or get into Shanghai, that is enough for us," the royal family member, who is also a senior official of the prime minister's office in charge of economics and financial affairs, told Xinhua earlier this week.

Amin Bio-Technology Sdn Bhd (AMIN) has brought products such as probiotics and fish oil to Shanghai. Director of AMIN Abdullah HJ Omar told Xinhua that their exhibits had been sold to the United States and Canada before debuting in China.

"We have high expectations for the Chinese market. Because China is friendly and inclusive, we hope to develop a more comprehensive cooperation with China," the director said.

China and Brunei first established diplomatic ties in 1991. During Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah visit to China in 2017, the two countries agreed to promote cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and work towards stronger bilateral ties.
