MADRID, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Bilbao halted Real Madrid's winning start to the season as they held them to a 1-1 draw in their San Mames Stadium on Saturday night.

Iker Muniain opened the scoring for the Basque side, who began brightly, in the 31st minute after good work from Oscar De Marcos and Inaki Williams, but he had to leave the pitch with a muscle injury shortly after halftime and that took some of the spark from the home side's play.

Isco equalized for Madrid in the 63rd minute, but Athletic looked a lot more solid than in their first two games of the campaign and were able to hang on for a point they deserved.

Two errors from Real Sociedad goalkeeper, Geronimo Rulli allowed FC Barcelona to recover from conceding an early goal to Aritz Elustondo to come back to win 2-1 in the first game played in Real Sociedad's renovated Anoeta Stadium.

Rulli twice showed his weakness on crosses to set up Luis Suarez for a second half equalizer and then to gift Ousmane Dembele the chance which led to the winning goal.

The result could still have been different had home striker Juanmi not missed two excellent second half chances against Barca keeper, Ter Stegen.

It could have been a lot worse for Atletico as Eibar hit the woodwork twice in the game and the Basque side looked as if they were going to take all three points when Sergi Enrique put them ahead in the 87th minute.

However, Borja Garces had a debut to remember when he equalized in the fourth minute of injury time, just 25 minutes after making his first team debut.

Valencia continue looking for their first win of the season as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Betis: the side that finished 4th last season have just three points from their first four games of the campaign.
