CAIRO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday discussed with his Jordanian counterpart the recent developments in Palestine and means of mutual coordination to push the peace talks forward.

The discussions came before the Arab League (AL) ministerial meeting for tackling issues including the crisis facing United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said a report by official news agency MENA.

Jordan has called for a special AL meeting on the UNRWA crisis after a U.S. decision to cease funding the UN agency which provides aid for millions of Palestinian refugees.

Spokesperson of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry reviewed the efforts to promote the humanitarian work in Palestine.

"Egypt stressed the importance of mobilization of the international community for boosting the UNRWA works," Abu Zeid added.

The two foreign ministers reiterated that the international funds are necessary to enable the agency to carry out its humanitarian missions, he added.

Egypt supports all efforts to promote the national reconciliation and achieve the Palestinian unity, the spokesperson added.

On Saturday, a U.S. State Department spokesperson said that President Trump had decided to cut allocated funds pledged for Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem. The move came a week after Trump's administration cut 200 million U.S. dollars in aid to the UNRWA.
