BERLIN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Leipzig picked up their first point of the season after sharing the spoils with newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf whereas Hertha Berlin edged Schalke 2-0 at the closer of the second round in Bundesliga on Sunday.

Leipzig and Dusseldorf played out a 1-1 stalemate as Jean-Kevin Augustin cancelled out Matthias Zimmermann's opener.

Dusseldorf secured a bright start on the road as Marvin Ducksch tested Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi from promising position in the 6th minute.

The visitors continued to press forward meanwhile Leipzig lacked in ideas to overcome Dusseldorf's bulwark. Hence, Dusseldorf came to more chances through Ducksch and Niko Giesselmann as the match progressed.

Leipzig's Jean-Kevin Augustin slotted home the opener in the closing period of the first 45 minutes but the striker's goal was ruled offside.

After the restart, Dusseldorf started where they left off and they eventually got rewarded for their efforts as Matthias Zimmermann broke the deadlock with a deflected shot in the 47th minute.

Ralf Rangnick's men pressed for the equalizer and Kevin Kampl came close before Augustin tapped home the leveller at the far post to make it 1-1 on the scoreboards with 68 minutes played.

However, Dusseldorf almost snatched a late victory but custodian Gulacsi tipped Ducksch's effort to the crossbar to secure the 1-1 draw.

With the result, Leipzig and Dusseldorf reaped their first point of the season.

Elsewhere, Ondrej Duda's brace helped Hertha Berlin to beat wasteful Schalke, who suffered their second defeat in as many games.

The "Royal Blues" should have opened the scoring with just 12 minutes into the clash but Daniel Caligiuri squandered a handball penalty.

Hertha Berlin punished the hosts for their wastefulness three minutes later when Ondrej Duda curled the ball from the edge of the box to open the scoring.

With the lead behind, the visitors defended deep and lurked for counter attacks yet Duda nor Valentino Lazaro failed to complete fast breaks successfully after the half time.

Schalke increased the pressure but even though they came close, they lacked in accuracy or Berlin goalkeeper Rune Jarstein was on guard to deny.

In the dying minutes of the game, things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Yevhen Konoplyanka received his marching orders after felling Dennis Jastrzembski as the last man.

To make things worse, Duda stepped up to slot home the subsequent free kick into the top left corner to seal the deal with seconds remaining in the clash.

With the win, Hertha Berlin climb on the third place meanwhile Schalke sit in the Bundesliga bottom. Enditem
