NAIROBI, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya has won its bid to host the Africa Junior Under-20 Nations Championship in Nairobi from Aug. 24-Sept. 3.

The biannual tournament is geared toward providing ground for young players to display their talent and clinch professional contracts with different clubs.

Egypt is the defending champion after winning the 2017 competition to represent Africa at the global championships.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) President Waithaka Kioni said they will bank on the huge fan base at home to propel them to the winner's podium.

The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) in a statement on Wednesday confirmed Kenya as host for the girls' competition while Nigeria will stage the boys tourney on a date yet to be confirmed.

"The CAVB has granted the organization of the Women's U20 African Nations Championship to Nairobi, Kenya from Aug 24 to Sept 3.

"The Under-21 African Nations Championship will go to Nigeria on dates yet to be confirmed," said CAVB President Amr Elwani.

CAVB is also calling on its member federations to give their opinion on what they want implemented and included in their work plan for the 2018-2019 season.

"We ask all federations to brainstorm on the establishment of the new sponsored Club Championship and propose to the next CAVB Board of Administration the ideas of having the tournament between the champions of Africa and the corresponding Asian champions," said Elwani.

The meeting discussed the Youth African Games after seven nations were identified as joining host Algeria in the final in Aug 7-17.

Meanwhile, the Under-23 African Nations Championships for both genders will not serve as a qualifying tourney for the World Championship next year.

The global volleyball governing body has changed its rules and will now host the world championships every four years and not every two years as has been the case before.
