KATHMANDU, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) on Wednesday distributed school bags and stationery items to nearly 500 students in the outskirts of Kathmandu.

As part of its regular school love-package project, the Chinese organization made the distribution to students of Pharping Secondary School, located in Dakshinkali municipality, 15 km south from the Ring Road.

The school bag, comprising notebooks, geometry box, color box, water bottle and other stationary item, was distributed to students from Grade Nursery to 10.

"We are thankful to the assistance of China and Chinese people. Being a public school, the school bags and stationeries will support our efforts to deliver quality education to students as in private boarding schools," Krishna Kumar Shrestha, principal at Pharping Secondary School, told Xinhua at the ceremony.

Established in 1917, this oldest school in the area has been providing education to around 600 students up to higher secondary level.

According to the officials, most of the students hail from remote villages and from the marginalized communities with poor family backgrounds.

Mohan Basnet, mayor of Dakshinkali municipality, said, "The Chinese support has arrived at the right place where many students have to walk up to two hours just to reach school. We expect continuation of such assistance to help our students get good education for the better future."

According to the CFPA, the love-package project, which has a history of 9 years in China, started in Nepal in 2016 and more than 4,000 students have already received this gift.

Sanjita Tamang, a grade 10 student, said, "I am very happy to receive new school bag and necessary stationeries. It has encouraged me to work hard and to get good results in exam."

The CFPA, which started works in Nepal right after the devastating earthquake of 2015, has been focusing on health, education and community development programs.
