Kenya looks to book place at Africa Women's Cup of Nations

NAIROBI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's women football team Harambee Starlets coach, David Ouma,believes his team will go on to secure a slot in the African Women's Cup of Nations finals in Ghana.

Kenya forced a barren draw against stubborn Uganda on Sunday to win the two-legged encounter 1-0 on aggregate.

Kenya will now meet Equatorial Guinea in the second round of the qualifiers in June where the winner will qualify for the finals.

The Starlets picked up a 1-0 win in Nairobi last week and only needed to ensure they avoid defeat in Kampala to book a date against Equatorial Guinea in the second round of qualification in June.

"They have shown resilience and can go on to secure a slot in the finals. We did it last year and we are going to secure qualification again," Ouma said.

Starlets missed striker Esse Akida who was ruled out of the tie with a school commitment while Ouma made changes with Mercy Achieng replacing her while Corazon Aquino and Sheryl Angachi all started.

Seven out of the 24 participating teams are expected to join hosts Ghana for the 13th edition of the continental showpiece scheduled for November 2018.

The top three teams from the final tournament in Ghana will be selected to represent Africa at the FIFA Women's World Cup in France in 2019.?
