WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday revealed his top three candidates for Federal Reserve chairman, local media reported.
In response to a reporter, Trump said the candidates are Kevin Hassett, head of the White House National Economic Council; Kevin Warsh, a former member of the Fed board of governors; and Christopher Waller, an economist and current member of the Fed board.
Trump has for months intended to replace Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, whose term will expire in May 2026, for not lowering interest rates.
On Aug. 25, Trump fired Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook over allegations that she committed mortgage fraud. On Aug. 28, Cook filed a lawsuit in a federal court in Washington, D.C., seeking to block the removal. ■
