TOKYO, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Monday ordered the establishment of a liaison office to gather information in response to a series of wildfires that have broken out in the vicinity of Tokyo.
Takaichi said in a post on X that the government would work closely with local authorities and mobilize relevant ministries to prevent the fires from spreading further and to ensure the safety of residents.
A wildfire that erupted in Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture, on Jan. 8 has yet to be fully contained. Meanwhile, a fire broke out on Sunday in Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and firefighting efforts are still ongoing.
A wildfire also broke out in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo, on Sunday. The fire was extinguished on Monday after burning for more than 24 hours, with no injuries or damage to homes reported, according to the fire department. ■
