BANGKOK, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's military announced on Monday the immediate lifting of the curfew imposed in the southern province of Narathiwat.
In an official announcement, the Narathiwat Task Force stated that the curfew was being lifted as the local security situation had been brought under control. The move is aimed at easing inconveniences to people's daily lives and boosting the region's economic and tourism development.
Anutin Charnvirakul, Thai caretaker prime minister, told the media in an interview on Sunday that the earlier explosions in multiple areas of Thailand's southern border regions were an attempt to disrupt the upcoming election.
Earlier on Sunday, the military confirmed that multiple petrol stations in Thailand's southern border provinces were hit by arson attacks and explosions late Saturday night, leaving one police officer injured, with five petrol stations in Narathiwat among the targeted sites, which led to the imposition of a curfew in Narathiwat that took effect on Sunday. ■
