RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Andreas Pereira has been drafted into Brazil's squad for an away World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, the Brazilian Football Confederation said on Friday.
The 29-year-old, who joined Palmeiras last week from Fulham, replaces Kaio Jorge after the striker suffered a hamstring injury in his international debut against Chile on Thursday.
Pereira, who was born in Belgium and represented the European country at youth level, has been capped 10 times for Brazil and scored two goals.
Brazil will face Bolivia on Tuesday in El Alto, more than 4,000 meters above sea level. The clash comes on the final matchday of the South American qualifiers.
Five-time World Cup champion Brazil is second in South America's qualifying group and is already guaranteed a berth in football's showpiece tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.
Bolivia is eighth in the 10-team standings and must win on Tuesday to have any chance of securing a playoff spot. ■
