NEW DELHI, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Police in India's financial capital Mumbai said Saturday they have arrested a man suspected to be behind a threat message warning multiple blasts across the city.
According to police, the man was arrested from Noida city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
An investigation team also recovered a mobile phone and SIM card used in the crime, the police said in a statement.
Citizens were advised not to believe in rumours and encouraged to reach out to police directly for any assistance, the statement said.
On Thursday, Mumbai traffic police WhatsApp Helpline received a bomb threat message claiming that bombs had been planted in 34 vehicles, and it would shake the entire city. The sender of the message further claimed that 14 terrorists had entered the city and planted 400 kg of RDX in vehicles for blasts, which can "kill 10 million people."
The message prompted authorities to heighten security measures across the city amid the ongoing 10-day Hindu festival Anant Chaturdashi. ■
