MEXICO CITY, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Naval officials have seized a cargo shipment containing 250 kilos of cocaine along the coast of Acapulco, in the southern state of Guerrero, according to the Mexican government on Tuesday.

In a press release, the Mexican Naval Secretary said its members detained two Mexicans during the operation along Mexico's Pacific coast.

Officials intercepted the boat Go Fast that had two high-speed outboard motors after a naval aircraft spotted it in waters 200 nautical miles south of Acapulco.

On board the boat, officials found 250 kilos of coke bundled in packages that were hidden inside 10 drums along with 3,000 liters of gas which authorities believe was used to refill the engines during the voyage.

"Naval personnel were able to perform the operation without firing a single firearm, and without violating any human rights," said the secretary in charge of the Coast Guard.

Mexican authorities have previously said that drug cartels use high-speed motorboats to traffic drugs from Central or South America to Mexico's southern coast.

This has led to increased vigilance by air and sea by the Mexican Navy in an attempt to stop it.
