Russia says U.S. not fulfilling its obligations under Syria ceasefire deal

MOSCOW. Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The United States has not fulfilled its obligations under a ceasefire deal in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Thursday.

"We are concerned about the way the agreement is being sabotaged by a number of structures and of course, the anti-government forces in Syria and their foreign supporters," he told local media.

"The U.S. side cannot guarantee the fulfillment of a whole number of elements of this agreement, which we saw in the past few days," he said, adding that Washington "did not separate moderate Syrian rebel forces from terrorists."

The recent air strike by the U.S.-led coalition on the Syrian military "is a very dramatic development regarding the agreement that we are talking about. It's a direct strike on its foundation," he said.

Meanwhile, Ryabkov said that the U.S. proposal to ban any aircraft operations in a number of Syrian regions will not work.

"I do not think this plan will work, at least until the United States and other sides engaged in this process make sure that the relevant actors, which see war as the only way to resolve the problem, stop using force," Ryabkov said.

The Syrian military announced Monday the end of a seven-day truce brokered by the United States and Russia, without talk of a possible extension, according to SANA.

The Kremlin said Tuesday that the hope for restoring the ceasefire in Syria was weak following U.S.-led coalition attacks against the Syrian army and the bombing of a humanitarian convoy.
